Scat Springs Memorial Scholarship

The Scat Springs Memorial Scholarship is one of the largest scholarships offered through the Dobyns-Bennett Awards Day program. A one-time scholarship of $10,000 will be awarded to a student who meets the following criteria:
 
  • A senior graduating in the spring of 2026.
  • Athletic and/or music or drama performance leadership (with competence and contributions in both athletics and the arts being highly valued).
  • Positive contributions to the life of the school with a special emphasis on encouragement and support of diversity and inclusiveness
  • Academic achievement and quality of the application submitted.
 
Applications are available on the Counseling webpage or outside the counseling office.  All applications are due in the Counseling Office by April 9, 2026.

The Susan Lodal Champion of Education Scholarship

This scholarship has been established to honor the service of 16 year KCS school-board member, Susan Lodal. Mrs. Lodal was a tireless advocate of students and the overall educational experience of students. The purpose of this scholarship is to provide two graduating seniors with a one-time $1500 scholarship to offset the expense of their postsecondary endeavors. Applications can be found on the D-B website, or picked up from the counseling office. The deadline for submissions to be considered for this award is 11:59 p.m. on April 2nd.  

“Life. Made Better.” Scholarship

We are excited to honor Dobyns-Bennett High School's Class of 2026! The Commercial Bank $2500 “Life. Made Better” Scholarship winner will be chosen from all applications received.

The application is due March 30th. 
Only one $2500 “Life. Made Better” Scholarship winner will be chosen from all applications received from schools in our bank’s footprint. Please print and share the Student Letter (attached) with your graduating seniors who meet the requirements and wish to apply. In order to qualify for this scholarship, students should complete the online application, be eligible for either free and reduced lunch or the Pell Grant, have a GPA of at least 3.0, be involved in at least 2 extra-curricular activities, submit an original essay, and share a recommendation letter.

Larry W. Corum Memorial Scholarship

SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA:
1. The student must be a graduating Dobyns-­Bennett High School senior who will be continuing their education at the collegiate level.
2. The student must have participated in/lettered in a school sanctioned competitive sport at least one year while at Dobyns-­‐Bennett High School.
3. The student must have at least a 2.75 GPA.
4. The student must submit a maximum one-­‐page essay on why they deserve the scholarship.
5. The student must submit a minimum of two letters of recommendations from teachers and/or
coaches.
HOW TO APPLY:
Students need to submit this application, a maximum one-­‐page essay, and two letters of recommendation from teachers and/or coaches by the deadline. Applications can be found outside of the Counseling Office or email John Burleson at [email protected]. Application deadline is March 20th. Please return applications to the Counseling Office.

Appalachian Fair Youth Scholarship

Award: $1,000
Eligibility: High school Senior or currently enrolled student in college or technical school. Must have participated in the Appalachian Fair within the last two years.

The Jay Bloomer Foundation


Established within the Foothills Community Foundation and will provide scholarships to students from Dobyns-Bennett High School who pursue higher education through technical college, or traditional four-year college at an accredited institution of higher learning.
Award: To be determined
Criteria:  Academic ability, athletics, leadership, community minded, strong work ethic.

Junior League of Kingsport's Community Service Scholarship

Award: $1,000
Eligibility: Female student currently enrolled as a senior in a public or private high school in the Kingsport/Sullivan County area or enrolled in a licensed home schooling program within this area. Demonstrates a commitment to volunteerism through an outstanding record of participation and leadership in service-oriented activities. These may include, but are not limited to, civic activities, church activities, scouting activities, or any other community services, either through an established service agency or individually. Maintains a consistent record of academic achievement within a challenging curriculum.

Abbott and Fenner Scholarship Program

Award:  $1,000 to the winner(s) each year.

The Ned McWherter Scholars Program

The Ned McWherter Scholars Program application opens on January 1, 2026, for the 2026-27 academic year. The application must be submitted through the TSAC Student Portal. You can learn about the scholarship and other state-funded financial aid opportunities on our website.
To be eligible to apply for the Ned McWherter Scholars Program, students must have a minimum ACT composite of 32 (1430 SAT) and a minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.75. ACT Superscores cannot be used to establish eligibility.
 
 

BigSun Scholarship

The BigSun Organization is proud to be able to continue to help young athletes succeed in their academic pursuits. We are offering an annual scholarship to a deserving student. All student athletes are eligible for this award, regardless of which sport they are participating in or what their capacity in that sport is.
Amount of Award:  $500.00
The successful applicant will be a high school senior or be attending a post secondary institute and currently involved in some sport at that institution or in the community..
