Dr. Brian Tate has served as Interim Principal since November of 2022.  In his 31+ years as an educator in Kingsport City Schools, Hawkins County Schools and East Tennessee State University. He has served as a math teacher, interim principal on two occasions, assistant principal, CTE instructor, mathematics curriculum consultant/professor, and has spent the last 11+ years as an assistant principal at Dobyns-Bennett High School.

 

Dr. Tate was appointed to the State of Tennessee Textbook and Instructional Materials Commision, serving as chairman for three of the six years on the commission. Dr. Tate served as a mathematics team leader for 10 years with the Appalachian Educational Laboratory (AEL).  Additionally, he has served as a curriculum team member for the State of Tennessee in the subjects of Wellness and Physical Education.

 

Dr. Tate has served as a reviewer/scorer for elementary, middle and high school math teachers for "educative" Teacher Performance Assessment (edTPA.)

 

In addition to academic roles, Dr. Tate has been head high school softball coach, assistant high school softball coach, head middle school girls basketball coach, key club advisor, and named high school softball conference coach of the year on two occasions. Dr. Tate also directs the prestigious Eastman Softball Invitational-a high school fastpitch tournament showcasing teams from across the southeast.

 

Dr. Tate holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Business Education from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from ETSU, an Education Specialist degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) and a Doctorate of Philosophy degree in Mathematics and Mathematics Education from the University of Tennessee-Knoxville.
