Kingsport City Schools Names Flora Chief Academic Officer - Elementary

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools has announced that Dr. Holly Flora has been named the KCS Chief Academic Officer - Elementary, effective July 3, 2023. Dr. Flora will replace Dr. Dwain Arnold, who is retiring from Kingsport City Schools on June 30, 2023.
 
With 27 years of experience in education, Dr. Flora has served in multiple educational roles including classroom teacher, curriculum leader, and school administrator. She began her career in Kingsport City Schools as a classroom teacher at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, followed by serving as a multi-age teacher at George Washington Elementary School. Dr. Flora then served as the KCS district Literacy Coordinator before accepting principalships at Andrew Jackson Elementary School and John Sevier Middle School. She has most recently held the position of principal at Liberty Bell Middle School in Johnson City (TN).

“I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the role of Chief Academic Officer for Elementary Schools for Kingsport City Schools, a place I have had the privilege of both learning and serving in various capacities,” said Dr. Flora. “It is with great enthusiasm that I look forward to returning to KCS to work alongside the talented and dedicated educators, administrators, and stakeholders of Kingsport to provide an exceptional educational experience for students.”

Dr. Flora holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education and Early Childhood Education from Milligan University, a Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from East Tennessee State University (ETSU), and Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership and Policy Analysis from ETSU. In 2017, she was selected as the National Association of Elementary School Principals (NAESP) National Distinguished Principal for the state of Tennessee. She has also served in a variety of leadership roles in local and state organizations, including board member, secretary, treasurer, and president of the Tennessee Principals Association.  

Kingsport City Schools (KCS) is a public school district located in Kingsport, Tenn., serving students in Sullivan and Hawkins county.
