Kingsport City Schools Inclusive Athletic Program Names Head Sparkle Squad Coach

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools Inclusive Athletic Program (formly Kingsport City Schools SPED Athletics) has announced the appointment of Meghan Carr as head coach for the Sparkle Squad, effective immediately.

Founded in 2013, the mission of the Sparkle Squad is to provide opportunities for students to express themselves and create relationships through collaborative cheer performances with their typically developing peers. Sparkle Squad gives middle and high school students a sense of belonging through participation in extracurricular activities, community outreach events, and performances at sporting events during the football and basketball seasons.

KCS Inclusive Athletic Program Director Nick Lingerfelt expressed enthusiasm about the transition, stating, “We are excited to have Meghan Carr take the helm of the Sparkle Squad. Her passion, work ethic, and experience within the program make her an exceptional choice to lead this team. We have every confidence that under Meghan's guidance, the Sparkle Squad will continue to excel and make a positive impact on our students and community.”

Carr, who has served as an assistant coach within the program, steps into this role following the tenure of Stephanie Strickler, whose leadership has been instrumental in the program’s success.
