Kingsport City Schools Lowers Tuition Rates for the 2024-2025 School Year

KINGSPORT, Tenn. - The Kingsport Board of Education has approved a revision to lower tuition rates for non-Kingsport residents attending Kingsport City Schools, effective for the 2024-2025 school year. Non-Kingsport residents in Tennessee will now pay a tuition rate of $1,000 per student/per year. In addition, City of Kingsport and Kingsport City Schools employees will now pay a tuition rate of $500 per student/per year.
 
Applications are available online at www.k12k.com via the "Zoning & Tuition Application" link at the top of the homepage or, if need be, in-person at the KCS Administrative Support Center, 400 Clinchfield Street, second floor, downtown Kingsport. The application deadline for priority status is June 5, 2024.  Applications received by the June 5 deadline will be given priority over those received after the deadline.

Parents of students who are not legal residents of the City of Kingsport must submit a tuition application to attend Kingsport City Schools. Parents or legal guardians must apply annually for their child’s tuition and zoning status, even if they attended Kingsport City Schools during the preceding school year. 
 
Tuition Rates for 2024-25 School Year:
  • All Tennessee Counties - 1st Child @ $1,000/year or $100/month
  • All Tennessee Counties - 2nd Child @ $950/year or $95/month
  • All Tennessee Counties - Additional Child @ $900/year or $90/month
  • Out of State - $9,700/year calculated yearly based on State of Tennessee funding
Tuition Rates for the 2024-25 School Year (City of Kingsport and Kingsport City Schools employees):
  • All Tennessee Counties - 1st Child @ $500 /year or $50/month
  • All Tennessee Counties - 2nd Child @ $475/year or $47.50/month
  • All Tennessee Counties - Additional Child @ $450/year or $45/month
The following are excerpts from the Kingsport Board of Education’s policies and procedures for zoning and tuition:
  • Parents or legal guardians must apply annually for their child’s tuition or zoning status.
  • Students who are not legal residents of the City of Kingsport shall pay tuition charges as approved annually by the Board of Education.
  • Failure to pay tuition will disqualify a student’s application for the next year.
  • Tuition students are accepted and zoning exceptions are granted only if current enrollment permits.
  • The system does not provide bus transportation for tuition or zoning exception students, except in specific circumstances.
