Dobyns-Bennett Science & Technology Center is the new face and main entrance for the D-B campus. The 70,000 square-foot, 400-seat building fulfills the mission to create a culture that inspires innovation through science and technology. Five academic goals for the science and technology center have been established as: 1.) Support scientific inquiry and discovery; 2.) Foster creativity and problem solving; 3.) Offer meaningful career opportunities; 4.) Provide application-based experiences through an integrated curriculum; and 5.) Utilize the power and flexibility of technology.

"We could not be more pleased with the end product that came from focused collaboration on the part of our city, Kingsport City Schools, D-B faculty and staff, Perkins+Will, and Burwil Construction Company," said Dobyns-Bennett High School Principal Dr. Chris Hampton. "The architects and contractors were able to work with our vision and needs to create a remarkable facility that exceeded our expectations. The process was exciting and at times stressful, but in the end Kingsport has a facility for which they can be exceedingly proud. It is a great honor to work in a community that can make this type of learning environment available to our students." 

The new three-story building includes: 18 science/tech. labs, two teacher work spaces, six student work spaces, one TEAL (Technology Enhanced Active Learning) lab, one large research lab, and four small research labs allowing for cross-curricular collaborations. A student cafe and administrative offices are also located among the three floors. With this addition, Dobyns-Bennett student capacity has been raised to support 2,500 students at 85 percent utilization.
