KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Kingsport City Schools (KCS) and the Kingsport Chamber are holding a student signing for KCS’s work-based learning program with Eastman, Silgan Closures, Worley and GRC Construction on Thursday, January 26, 2023 at 9:45 a.m. inside the STEM Building lobby at Dobyns-Bennett High School.

Students will be signing on to work at Eastman, Silgan Closures, Worley and GRC Construction through a work-based learning program through Kingsport City Schools that allow students to develop hands-on training in manufacturing and construction and start their career as they transition from high school to the workplace.

This is Worley’s first cohort of work-based learning students while Eastman, Silgan Closures and GRC Construction will be continuing its successful work-based learning model for students.

“Work-based learning is a proactive approach to education,” said Lora Barnett, Kingsport Chamber’s executive director of workforce development & government relations. “It bridges the gap between high-demand, high-skilled careers in Tennessee that are looking for the next generation of experienced professionals.”

This program gives students the opportunity to train on-site and learn alongside skilled workers in the manufacturing and construction industries.

“Through work-based learning, students build on classroom-based instruction to develop employability skills that prepare them for success in postsecondary education and future careers. We are appreciative of all of our business partners and could not do this work without their continued support of students and our educators,” said Barnett.

The event will be livestreamed on the Education and Workforce Development Facebook page for the general public to view.
