Dobyns-Bennett High School Saxophone Ensemble Selected for Renowned National Chamber Music Festival

KINGSPORT, TENN. –  The Dobyns-Bennett High School Saxophone Ensemble, Portail du Son, has been selected as one of only 10 high school chamber ensembles nationwide to perform at the esteemed National Chamber Music Festival, taking place March 13-15, 2025 in Indianapolis, IN. The festival is sponsored by Music for All, a national organization responsible for hosting the nation's top young musicians and is affiliated with Bands of America National Marching Band Championships.

Portail du Son student-musicians include Chris Egan (alto saxophone), Liam Klug (soprano saxophone), Luke Nash (tenor saxophone), Eli Turner (baritone saxophone), and Matthew Williams (alto saxophone).

As part of the festival, Portail du Son will deliver a 25-minute performance on the national stage, followed by a post-performance clinic, where they will receive feedback from a panel of nationally distinguished music educators and chamber musicians. Over the course of the weekend, the students will have the opportunity to attend numerous concerts, workshops, and social events designed to further their learning and understanding of both concert band and chamber music. The Chamber Music Festival Concerts will be held on March 14, 2025.

These five accomplished student musicians are current members of the Dobyns-Bennett Band and have earned numerous individual music accolades. Klug and Nash have earned multiple Tennessee Music Educators Association All-State honors, while all five students have been recognized by the East Tennessee School Band and Orchestra Association’s All-East ensembles. Notably, Klug has also been selected to perform on alto saxophone in the prestigious Honor Band of America Concert, held during the same weekend as part of the Music for All National Festival.
